Pump parts are subject to wear and tear over time. This can affect your pump’s suction, reducing your milk supply. In addition, minor cracks can form. This may result in residue buildup, bacteria, and mould that can be hard to clean.
How often you replace your pump parts will depend on how frequently you pump. These are general guidelines. Parts should be replaced at the first sight of any wear and tear.
If you’re pumping more than 3 times per day:
- Valves: every month
- Backflow protectors: every 3 months
- Breast shields/flanges: every 6 months
If you’re pumping less than 3 times per day:
- Valves: every 2-3 months
- Backflow protectors: every 6 months
- Breast shields/flanges: every 6 months or if there is noticeable damage or wear
Tubing should be replaced if it shows noticeable damage, pops off the pump, or has moisture or mold.
These are general guidelines. Depending on your pump and usage, you may need to replace your pump parts more or less often than stated. For further instructions, it’s essential to refer to your pump’s specific replacement part guidelines.
